The Fiat Yamaha Team riders concluded their pre-season preparation this evening with another strong performance in the humid Qatar night, Valentino Rossi finishing second and Jorge Lorenzo sixth. This was the last time the riders will be on track before the first race, back at the same circuit in three weeks time.

Fiat Yamaha Team rider Jorge Lorenzo will take part in this week's MotoGP test in Qatar, four weeks after breaking a bone in his right thumb during a training incident.

The 22-year-old has spent the time recuperating at home in Barcelona and he has now been given the all-clear by his doctor to get back on his bike. We are now going to have a look back over the action and analyze what we can, as the competition crossed swords for the first time in anger.

Xerox Ducati

The first thing that is plainly obvious is that the dominant team of 2009 is likely to be just as dominant this year and that team is obviously Ducati. The team has maintained its presence as the pace makers and with no personnel changes to worry about, apart from the departure of Davide Tardozzi, it looks as though the team will once again play a major role in deciding where the title ends up. But will inward fighting between the team-mates cost Ducati another world title?

No, the news was centred firmly around the intriguing news that there will be a new points scoring system used in the championship in 2010.

The author here is no exception, having spent far more money on various bikes than he probably should have, but the feeling of having a bike that's customised to your tastes and riding style is a logical extension of owning a bike for a lot of people. Modifying a bike is far removed from the idea of building your own custom bike, but it feels the same, creating something that's unique to us, something we're proud of and something we can ride how we want...
